Fire services in Malmö, Göteborg and Stockholm form a future project.

The objective of the project is to investigate the development in larger growth regions in the world in order to meet future needs for the fire services. Which trends in the society could affect the fire services and how could they be met and properly dealt with?
Is it, for example, a growth of social unrest and disorder, for instance the riots we have seen in London this summer with injury to people as well damages to buildings? Other questions include how to secure future transportations of injured after road accidents and other accidents in order to avoid delays due to traffic jams and other obstacles. The project will look 20 years ahead to obtain a better knowledge base for future decision-making and be prepared for future challenges. – There are three central questions to be answered, according to Per Björkman, Strategical Manager at the Region South Fire and Rescue Service:
What is happening?
 Why is it happening?
What impact does it have on our organization? The group, which consists of experts from the three Swedish regions, will present a first report in May 2012 and a final report in October 2012. The work will be based on studies and on-site visits to some regions. Based on the results of the report, an action plan will be presented.
